프로젝트 D # 1: L is for Light

프로젝트 D # 1

가명으로 붙인 프로젝트 D는 그 안에 여러가지 프로젝트가 있다. 지금까지는 메인으로 3개를 동시에 진행하고 있는데, 모두 조금씩 발전시키다 보니 조금은 더딜 수 밖에 없는 실정이다.

요즘에 다시 작업에 불이 붙어서

나의 뇌구조는 80퍼센트 이상이 프로젝트 D에 관한 것이다. 아직 알을 낳는 고통만 있고 낳지는 못했는데, 곧 작품이 점점 발전되어가고 있어서 뿌듯하기도 하다.

과연 어떤 비주얼 랭귀지로 나의 고민들이 표현될 것인가. 가슴이 벅차고 이런 생각과 감정을 어서 관객에게 전해주는 일을 하고 싶다.

그리고 블로그 카타고리에 있는 '파랑을 향하여' 라는 시리즈 또한 모두 지금 프로젝트 D을 위한 것이다.

파란색을 쓰기까지 이렇게 많은 고민을 한 적이 있던가. 칸딘스키가 생각하는 색에 대한 생각들을 연구하면서 정말 칸딘스키의 지식, 정신, 생각의 위치까지 갈 수나 있으려나...하는 생각이 들었다. 그리고 감히 그런 도예가가 되고 싶다는 다짐을 했다. 아직 나는 멀었지만 노력해볼거다. 제대로.

The Theory of Circle

Inspired by the de book III of Euclid’s Elements, The Theory of Circle is a visual depiction (translation) of form of thoughts through ceramics art.

 

White

Blank but not blank

In ceramic industry like in Stoke-on-Trent, white plate with no pattern is often called ‘blank’. The white ‘blank’ china plate often is a great source for artists and designers to express their drawings and ideas. It is called ‘blank’ because mainly there is no image on the surface. However, it is felt that there is a lot of potential in ‘blank’.

 

Blank can be empty but at the same time it is filled with light, can be full.  This is why I intend to use white ‘blanks’ for my new projects.

 

The Shape of Space

When explaining extra dimensions in the string theories in physics, it often describe as an ant crawling over garden hose.

 

‘A standard analogy for this is to consider a multidimensional object such as a garden hose. If the hose is viewed from a sufficient distance, it appears to have only one dimension, its length. However, as one approaches the hose, one discovers that it contains a second dimension, its circumference. Thus, an ant crawling on the surface of the hose would move in two dimensions.’(Greene 2000, p. 186)

 

Much influenced by this, I consider ceramic plates can be seen as a kind of space. The shape of space that ceramic objects might have can differ by viewers in different perspectives, too.

 

 

Geometry in Art

Euclid’s Elements

Inspired by the book by Oliver Byrne, The First Six Books of the Elements of Euclid (1847), I employ the contemporary visual interpretation of geometry through ceramics. The installation will be a form of thought –process towards the circles.
